How do I clean my PC's dust filters?

Most desktop PC cases have removable dust filters – usually on the front, top and bottom. Depending on the model, these can be removed without tools – for example, by opening the front panel, lifting the top filter or pulling out the bottom filter. The following image (by Fractal Design) shows some examples:

Instructions:

1. Before any maintenance, switch off the PC completely, turn off the power switch on the AC adapter and unplug the power cable.
2. Tap the dust filters dry, clean them with a soft brush or vacuum them carefully.
3. If using a damp cloth: allow the filters to dry completely before reinstalling them.

If dust has already accumulated inside the unit, the fans and thermal modules can also be carefully cleaned using compressed air spray. We recommend cleaning the filters at least every 3 to 6 months. See also:
