How can I protect my PC's glass panel from damage?

Protect it from hard surfaces

Many transparent side panels are made of tempered glass (ESG) . This glass is stable during use but is sensitive to impacts on the edges. Hard surfaces such as tiles, ceramics or stone are particularly problematic. Even a slight touch to the edge can be enough to cause the panel to shatter instantly.

Preventative tips:

• Never place side panels with glass panels on tiles, stone or ceramics.
• Instead, place them only on carpet, cardboard, fabric, wood or a soft mat.
• Always hold the panel with both hands and do not let it tilt.
• Avoid knocks to the edges during removal and installation.
• Place the PC on a stable, preferably slightly cushioned surface.

Damage to tempered glass can also occur even when the side panel is still fitted to the PC. With such PCs, it is generally not advisable to place them on tiles, stone or ceramic surfaces. This applies even if the PC has its own rubber feet – as impacts and vibrations can still be transmitted to the glass panel via the corners and edges of the PC.

Why is such delicate glass used at all?

Tempered glass is particularly translucent and resistant to scratches, and therefore, with proper care, still looks as good as new even after many years. The shatterproof alternative 'Plexiglas', on the other hand, can scratch easily and, even with good care, no longer looks as brilliant as it did when it was new. Tempered glass is therefore particularly impressive visually – but is, in turn, sensitive to hard knocks and resonance effects when in contact with particularly hard surfaces (tiles, ceramics, stone).
